Travel The World With Travel Nursing
By Rose Lindy
If you are a nurse, you have so many opportunities in front of you. You probably are wondering what I am talking about, but just think of it. You have the opportunity to help people all over the world with your healing skills. If you are looking for a more rewarding and satisfying way to use your nursing skills, you may want to consider travel nursing. As with anything, you need to do your homework and find out if this is something that is right for you, especially if you have a family because the decision will affect all of you, not just yourself.
Benefits of Travel Nursing
One of the first things you will notice about travel nurses is that they make a good salary and have good benefits. It is not unusual for travel nurses to make from $20 to $38 per hour. Of course this will all depend on how much experience you have and if you are specialized in any area. No matter where you are living, either in the U.S. or abroad, you will be the employee of the recruiting agency who hired you. Therefore, you will have medical benefits, 401 (k) benefits as well as stipends for housing and food. You will also have your travel costs paid when you work through an agency.
If you have worked as a nurse on a hospital staff, you may be looking at making twice the income if you become a travel nurse. Even if you go to work for another hospital, you will get paid more just because you are a travel nurse. Another great benefit of being a travel nurse is that you basically make your own hours. It is almost like being a freelancer in the nursing profession. That means no working holidays or weekends if you do not want to work them. You can pretty much set how much or how little you want to work, at least if you are working in the U.S. Working abroad may be somewhat different, depending on the situation you are in.
One of the biggest things that attracts people to travel nursing is the excellent housing that is offered. The housing is free and, depending on what country you are living in, typically very high-quality. There is the possibility that you will have a roommate, but if that is the case you will have a two bedroom apartment. If you will not have a roommate then you will get a one bedroom apartment that is fully furnished. If you decide you want to find your own housing then you will get a stipend for housing.
Nurses who have just graduated from nursing school will have to have at least one years worth of specialty experience. You will also need to have the right attitude with the ability to be flexible and adapt to change. Agencies are going to check you out very carefully before hiring you because a lot of expense is put into relocating a traveling nurse so the are not going to send out just anyone. Be ready to work hard and have the time of your life.
